Memphis Depay’s Manchester United career plummeted to new lows on Boxing Day as his comical attempt at a headed back-pass gifted a goal to Stoke City, who went on to beat the Red Devils 2-0 at the Britannia Stadium.
The Netherlands international, who has flattered to deceive at Old Trafford following his £31 million summer move from PSV Eindhoven, was substituted at half-time by the beleaguered Louis van Gaal - the third time this season he has been hooked off during the break following a poor opening 45-minute spell.
Depay’s attitude has been called into question on several occasions since he arrived at United and this latest story will do little to ease supporter fears that the club’s current number seven isn’t concentrating enough on turning his - and his team’s - season around.
